Lua is the Vietnamese word for silk. Lua scarves are made by dedicated farming villagers in Vietnam, Cambodia, and India using centuries of techniques of harvesting, weaving, dyeing, and printing. During the rice and harvesting seasons, the villagers work in the fields tending their crops. In the off seasons, they sustain themselves by producing rich and high-quality textiles. Working communally, each family within the village assumes a particular task in the development and production process. Several riase the silk worms on a natural diet of mulberry leaves, other weave them into fabrics, and still others hand dye them to create one-of-a-kind patterns. The scarves are twisted and braided before shipping to create the soft crinkle texture. Lua is proud to use fair trade practices to sustain the livelihood of the communities and preserve centuries old crafts.
